NEED TO KNOW
- Kristen Stewart attended the premiere of The Chronology of Water wearing a Chanel short suit
- The Twilight actress debuted a tattoo with her suit on the red carpet
- The tattoo had a NSFW meaning that ties to a scene in The Chronology of Water
Kristen Stewart might be following the Cannes Film Festival’s new dress code rules, but she’s doing it in her unique way!
The actress, 35, walked the red carpet for the premiere of The Chronology of Water at the 78th annual Cannes Film Festival on May 16 in a look that was equal parts chic and relaxed.
For the occasion, Stewart wore an all-white Chanel suit, consisting of a fitted white jacket, trouser shorts and a sheer white blouse with a tiny black tie. The Twilight alum added a sensual touch by leaving a few buttons open, daring to break the festival’s no nudity rule. (“Nudity is prohibited on the red carpet, as well as in any other area of the festival” due to “decency reasons,” the official FAQ website for the event reads.)
Instead of breaking dress code on the red carpet, Stewart opted to let her brand-new leg tattoo steal the show. The shorts showed off the ink, located just above the knee, that read “MINE” in all capital letters.

While speaking of her directorial debut The Chronology of Water — which premiered at Cannes on May 16 — with Vulture, Stewart revealed that the rest of the movie’s film crew will get a matching “MINE” tattoo and shared its NSFW (not safe for work) meaning.
“The coolest song in the movie is when she c—s on her hand, smells it, wipes it on her f—— bicep, and goes, ‘I didn’t know a girl body could do that. Shoot c–e.’ And then this song comes on and it goes, ‘Mine, mine, mine, mine.’ And it’s just f—— mine,” she revealed.

The new tattoo isn’t the only new thing that Stewart has unveiled during Cannes — the actress showed up to The Chronology of Water photocall and debuted ombré pink tips in her hair to match her Chanel outfit.

Imogen Poots, Thora Birch, Earl Cave, Michael Epp, Susannah Flood, Kim Gordon, Jim Belushi, Julienne Restall and Tom Sturridge star in the movie and were in attendance for the photocall.
Before the premiere, Stewart told The Hollywood Reporter that she wants the movie to “crash and burn, but in a way that feels correct.”
