Rudy Gobert‘s relationship with Julia Bonilla has come to an end.

In a statement on his Instagram Stories in May 2025, Gobert confirmed that he and Bonilla have gone their separate ways amid her pregnancy with their second child. The news came one year after the couple welcomed their first baby, a son named Romeo, and just as the Minnesota Timberwolves were set to compete in the conference finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The NBA center first made his relationship with Bonilla public in February 2024 when the two announced they were expecting a child together. Their son was born on May 6, 2024.

Other than his ex-girlfriend’s pregnancy announcement, Gobert kept their relationship private. Bonilla is also a private person, but she has shared parts of her life in her podcast, Journey. In April 2024, she spoke out when she came to Gobert’s defense after he was anonymously voted “most overrated” by NBA players.

Bonilla shared her disappointment on Instagram, writing that Gobert “deserves all the respect” for his work.

“It’s hard for me to stay quiet in front of so much stupidity, disrespect and nonsense,” she wrote, per TMZ. “I am so proud of the person he is — fair, a great teammate, with a good heart and a strong mind. I am proud of you, and our son is proud of you.”

They welcomed their first child during a playoff series

On May 6, 2024, Gobert and Bonilla’s son, Romeo, was born, and the basketball star was on the receiving end of criticism again. On the day of his child’s birth, the Timberwolves had a playoff game, which Gobert sat out to be by his then-girlfriend’s side.

The match was Game 2 of the Timberwolves’ second-round matchup against the Denver Nuggets, and Gobert’s no-show led to some mocking from his peers, including former NBA player Gilbert Arenas.

In a post Gobert shared on his Instagram Stories on May 17, 2025, he said he’d seen “a lot of inaccurate information out there.”

“Julie and I are currently in the painful process of redefining our coparenting relationship,” he wrote. “Being a father is one of the most profound and meaningful [experiences] I will get to live. It is one of my most important life purposes and will be so forever. I’m fully committed to keep supporting the well-being of all the people that I care about.”

Bonilla made a statement of her own on her Instagram account. Though it has since been made private, screenshots of her Instagram Stories were shared in a post on X.

Calling their breakup “one of the most painful times in my life,” Bonilla wrote that she had “NEVER EVER been unfaithful to the father of my children.”

“I considered Rudy the love of my life. I left everything for him. I gave him a child and poured my heart into our relationship,” Bonilla wrote. “When everyone criticized him and insulted him, I stood by him, always putting him first and choosing him, always. Despite how I have been treated, I choose to protect his name for the sake of my children.”
