Multiple people have died following a shooting at a school in Austria, according to reports.

Police responded to the shooting at the BORG Dreischützengasse in the city of Graz at around 10 a.m. local time on the morning of Tuesday, June 10, per local public broadcaster ORF.

According to the Austria Presse Agentur (APA), 10 people died in the attack. Several students were killed, at least one adult and the suspected shooter, the agency reported, citing Graz mayor Elke Kahr.

Police confirmed the location of the incident in an X post.

Officers have since shared further updates on the social media site, announcing that there had been “several deaths.”

Police also confirmed that a meeting point had been set up for the students’ parents at the city’s ASKÖ Stadium, with another post stating that students and parents were being supported by the crisis intervention team.

ORF noted that the suspected shooter is believed to have killed himself, citing police spokesman Fritz Grundnig.

Per local outlet Die Presse, a “major police operation” has been launched.

Per the BBC, police confirmed several victims had been killed in a news conference. However, they declined to confirm the exact number of casualties.

Officers said the school had been secured, insisting there was no further danger.

ORF noted that several Interior Ministry helicopters had been deployed amid the incident, in addition to special police units. The outlet stated the shooter was believed to have been a former student at the school.
