Charleston, S.C., influencer Liz Adams is opening up about her experience getting an upper blepharoplasty.

In an Instagram video posted on Tuesday, June 10, Adams shared the process of getting the cosmetic procedure, which removes excess skin from the eyelids. She starts the clip with her husband’s reaction to her asking if he thinks she has “ball sack eyes,” to which he replies, “What does that even mean?”

“I got an upper blepharoplasty and here is how it went!” Adams, who is mom to three boys, captioned the post. “18 days from surgery and a complete timeline of the healing. My scars will continue to fade and I still have a tiny bit of swelling around my suture line, but I am blown away by the before and after!”

The influencer then showed herself pulling at her eyelid skin.

The rest of the video documents Adams’ experience from surgery day to 18 days later. On the fourth day, her eyes showed “more bruising,” and she said she could “feel the incision bruising.”

By the end of the clip, her bruises had mostly resolved. “This is the first day that I have actual makeup on my eyes,” Adams says. She adds, “I am just so happy with everything. I still totally feel like myself, just a little brighter, a little refreshed.”

In her caption, Adams also shared that her surgeon is Dr. Clayton Crantford. Replying to a comment, she revealed that the procedure cost $3,700. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the average cost of a blepharoplasty is $3,339, not including anesthesia, operating room facilities or other related expenses.

Upper blepharoplasty is an increasingly popular cosmetic surgery. Dr. Peter Lee, blepharoplasty specialist and CEO at Wave Plastic Surgery, previously explained the procedure to PEOPLE.

“As we age, the upper eyelid skin loosens and sags over the eyes. This is especially true towards the outer corners of the eye, resulting in a more tired and sad appearance,” he said. “Upper blepharoplasty, commonly referred to as eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure aimed at rejuvenating the upper eyelid region. It involves the removal of excess skin, fat, and sometimes muscle to create a more youthful and alert appearance.”

Dr. Lee also shared how the surgery is performed.

“The procedure typically starts with an incision along the natural crease of the upper eyelid and excising the excess skin, prominent fat, and muscle,” he said. “The goal is to naturally restore the upper eyelid to a youthful state. Typically, the surgery takes about an hour to perform, with recovery time of 2 weeks, the sutures are removed anywhere from 5 to 10 days after surgery.”
