Family of Luigi Mangione, Suspect in UnitedHealthcare CEO’s Shooting, Reacts After His Arrest — Details
As Luigi Mangione awaits his court hearing over UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s death, the Mangione family shares their perspective in a recent statement.
The family of Luigi Mangione has spoken out for the first time since his arrest in Pennsylvania through his cousin, Maryland Delegate Nino Mangione.
“Unfortunately, we cannot comment on news reports regarding Luigi Mangione. We only know what we have read in the media. Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi’s arrest,” the family said.
They also conveyed sympathy to Thompson’s loved ones, acknowledging their loss. They urged the public to offer prayers for everyone impacted by the tragedy. “We are devastated by the news,” the family reiterated.
Mangione was arrested in Altoona on December 9, with police later releasing a photo of him in a holding cell. Officials transferred him to the State Correctional Institution in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, where they issued his booking photo.

The arrest follows the December 4 fatal shooting of Thompson in Manhattan. Thompson, who was in the city for a UnitedHealth Group investor meeting, was walking between the Marriott Hotel and the New York Midtown Hotel when he was killed.
He leaves behind a wife and two sons, and the corporate world and local communities mourn his death.
Authorities arraigned Mangione in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, where he remains held without bail. He faces five charges in the state, including two felonies for forgery and carrying a firearm without a license.
Mangione did not enter a plea, and his next court hearing is scheduled for December 23.
