Just days away from a milestone birthday, a young content creator’s tragic end has left many asking why.

Misha Agrawal, a social media influencer and entrepreneur, passed away by suicide on April 24 in India, just two days shy of her 25th birthday, leaving behind grieving loved ones and a shocked online following.

News of Misha’s passing was confirmed on April 26 through her official Instagram page. Her elder sister, Mukta Agrawal, later revealed that the young woman had been struggling with depression, largely fueled by her declining follower count on Instagram.

According to the post, Misha had become consumed by the desire to reach one million followers and had even set a screenshot of her follower count as her phone’s wallpaper.

Mukta shared that despite holding a law degree and preparing for judicial service exams, Misha remained convinced that her entire future hinged on her digital success.

In the emotional tribute, Mukta wrote, “She built her world around Instagram and her followers… When her followers started decreasing, she became distraught and felt worthless.”

Mukta also described how her sister would cry and express fear that her career would be over if her numbers continued to drop. She also pleaded with Misha to take pride in her academic achievements, “I told her she would become a judge one day and didn’t need to worry about her followers.”

Nonetheless, the emotional toll proved devastating, and Misha ultimately ended her life. In the post’s caption, Mukta wrote, “Instagram is not a real world and followers are not real love, please try to understand this,” which serves as a strong warning for other influencers.

In addition to her work posting online, Misha was also the founder of a cosmetics brand, Mish Cosmetics, which promoted organic beauty products under the tagline “From Nature To You.”

On April 28, her business team posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, calling her the “heart behind MishCosmetics.in and Mish Hair Oil.” They assured followers that her brand would continue in her honor, “We kindly ask for your patience with your orders as we continue her dream with love.”

Online reactions to Mukta’s explanation ranged from sadness to suspicion. Many fans expressed disbelief about the stated cause of Misha’s death.

One person commented“No I don’t believe this…I mean she was a sensible girl. I feel like they are lying [sic].” Another echoed a similar sentiment, “I am pretty sure there is another reason. Some people are soo build up with family reputation that they’ll just say any lie to save the soo called reputation [sic[.”

The disbelief continued in several other responses. One fan wrote“I totally feel it’s a lie. She wasn’t a kid. I feel so so so sad using ‘was’. I DON’T BELIEVE THIS IS THE ACTUAL REASON. There is something more. And when everyone in the comment section feels the same, idk…[sic].” Another added“Bro [sic] something’s really fishy.”

Though the full truth may never be publicly known, one sentiment was shared across many comments: deep sorrow for the loss. As one person put it“This can’t be the exact reason.. but still it’s so sad that we lost her😢 [sic].”

The tragedy serves as a painful reminder of the growing mental health concerns among young creators in the high-pressure world of social media. Misha is only the latest influencer who has taken their life.

As reported earlier this year, Chris O’Donnell, widely known as Creeohdee on TikTok for his humorous videos that resonated with millions, died at the age of 31. An online obituary confirmed his passing on Saturday, January 11, 2025.

According to E! News, the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed that the fitness influencer’s death was ruled a suicide.

Just one day before his passing, Chris shared what would become his final Instagram post. It featured a meme and a photo of him wearing a cowboy hat, accompanied by a simple caption, “That they do.”

Chris, a resident of Gilbert, Arizona, shared glimpses of his life beyond content creation in an Instagram post from December 2022. “I am a two time college drop out,” he wrote, reflecting on the wide range of jobs he had held, including working as a pool boy in Florida and at a salmon processing plant in Alaska.

“I have experienced many different walks of life in my short span of time here on earth, and I love learning about other cultures and beliefs that make me challenge my own,” he added.

He also shared his passion for adventure and the outdoors. “I love beauty, and I find nothing more beautiful than the world we live in. Being able to travel and capture sights that take people’s breath away, thus planting the seed of adventure within them is one of the most fulfilling rewards for me (this side of my content will be growing a lot moving forward),” Chris explained.

His two dogs, Blue and Riley, often accompanied him on these adventures, which he frequently documented for his followers.

Beyond his love for nature, Chris found joy in creativity. “I thoroughly enjoy art in nearly every medium, whether it be photography/videography, painting, sculpture, drawing, or music, and I create works of my own in my spare time,” he said.

A passionate advocate for mental health and substance abuse awareness, Chris spoke candidly about his struggles. He got sober in 2018 and worked tirelessly to support others in finding the treatment they needed.

He wrote, “I have been outspoken about mental health since I was speaking about it as a YL leader in high school, and have been transparent about my own struggles in the hopes it will help others along their own path.”

He also reflected on the value of genuine connections in a digital world, acknowledging that while he found fulfillment in uplifting others, he often preferred solitude and was selective about letting people into his life.

He concluded his post by encouraging his followers to look beyond the curated personas on social media and to value a more authentic view of others.

Weeks before his death, Chris posted a reflective video montage of scenic landscapes he had explored in November 2024. “I wonder when I leave this earth, when I leave the rat race, when I’m lying in the dirt, if you’d remember my face,” he captioned the post.

Followers who visited his post after the news of his untimely death were deeply moved. A user wrote“We will brother 💔 wish I woulda rode bulls sooner with you. Tonight we honored you at the chip. You are so deeply loved man. Everyone misses you. Really wish I could have gotten to know you better. Gave your mom a tight hug [sic]. 😭”

A fellow commenter added“We will brother. I love you ❤️,” while another heartbroken supporter assured the late content creator, “I will 😢.”

More fans flooded Chris’s Instagram page with messages of love and grief. “I cannot believe this. Rest in peace my friend 😢,” one user commented. Another said“Love you always, you didn’t deserve it to go like this at all ❤️.”

Someone else stated“Incredibly saddened to hear the news. May you fly high. God bless you and your family. Rest in peace ❤️🪽.”

Chris’s sudden passing has left fellow creators in shock and mourning.

TikTok creator and fitness coach ironsanctuary, whose real name is Kevin Clevenger, expressed his sorrow, “One day I’ll find peace in knowing you’re not in pain anymore, but today my heart aches that you’re gone. I love you. @Chris O’Donnell.”

While fans, friends, and family are deeply saddened by this loss, Chris has undoubtedly left behind a lasting legacy of his cherished presence.
