Why Doesn’t Brad Pitt Want to Marry His Girlfriend, Despite Being ‘Happy’ in Their Relationship?

The Oscar winner is living with his new girlfriend and reportedly “enjoys spending time with her” but still has firm boundaries in place. Here’s what those inside his circle are revealing.

Brad Pitt has been a staple of Hollywood’s A-list for decades — from his breakout role in “Thelma & Louise” to critically acclaimed performances in “Fight Club,” “Moneyball,” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Yet, beyond the cameras and red carpets, his personal life has often drawn just as much public attention.

After years of keeping a low profile, the actor is in a serious relationship. But as their bond deepens, there’s one decision he refuses to make — and those close to him say it has less to do with the present, and everything to do with the past.

A New Spark

In November 2022, Pitt, then 58, was photographed attending a Bono concert at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles with Inés-Olivia de Ramon, a Swiss-born jewelry executive. The pair appeared relaxed and content, joined backstage by famous couple Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber.

According to reports, the two had been dating for a few months at the time. A source close to de Ramon, then 32, described her as “cute, fun and energetic,” adding that Pitt was “really into” her. They reportedly met through mutual friends, and insiders noted that their connection felt natural. One source said:

“She has a great personality. Brad enjoys spending time with her.”

De Ramon, who graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Geneva in 2013, had built an impressive career in the luxury sector, with past roles at Christie’s and the Swiss jeweler De Grisogono.

As of 2020, she has served as Vice President at the Los Angeles-based brand Anita Ko Jewelry. Before Pitt, de Ramon had been married to “The Vampire Diaries” actor Paul Wesley. Their romance began in 2018, and they tied the knot the following year.

However, by mid-2022, the couple had quietly separated. A rep later confirmed they had been “living apart for several months,” calling the decision to separate mutual.

Though Pitt and de Ramon’s relationship was not exclusive at first, it quickly became clear that their bond was growing stronger. By July 2023, sources told People that the romance was “going very strong,” noting how much they “truly enjoy each other’s company.”

A year later, in February 2024, PEOPLE reported that the couple had started living together. While de Ramon hadn’t given up her own residence completely, she had moved into Pitt’s home. “It’s pretty recent,” a source said at the time, “but they are going very strong and she is happier than ever.”

Pitt, now 61, has been balancing his personal happiness with professional momentum. In 2024, the pair was seen arriving together at the Venice International Film Festival.

An insider revealed, “Brad’s been working in Europe, so they’ve spent a lot of time there. He’s serious about Ines. He’s very happy and enjoys spending time with her.”

By March 2025, their relationship seemed to have reached an even deeper level of comfort and stability. “They’re in a great place,” a source shared shortly after Pitt finalized his divorce from Angelina Jolie.

Though the custody battle with Jolie remained unresolved, Pitt had, according to insiders, embraced a quieter, more grounded lifestyle with de Ramon by his side. “Life’s good. No complaints,” one source said.

Even as those around him continue to embrace the idea of a new marriage.

However, despite how committed and content the couple appears, fans hoping for wedding bells may be disappointed as in April 2025, it was reported that Pitt, while “totally in love” with de Ramon, had no plans to remarry.

A source close to the actor explained that his reluctance stemmed from the emotional toll of his divorce from Jolie and the ongoing estrangement from his children. The insider said:

“He’s been burned badly by the divorce from Angelina and his kids wanting little if nothing to do with him. He’s 61 and loving his life just the way it is.”

While de Ramon has reportedly impressed Pitt’s inner circle — including longtime friend George Clooney — sources noted that he has made peace with not formalizing the relationship through marriage.

“He wants what’s best for the kids and radical forgiveness is what needs to happen in order to bring true healing into the equation,” stated a source reflecting on the Hollywood star’s past.

Even as those around him continue to embrace the idea of a new marriage, the “Fight Club” icon appears content maintaining a loving, steady relationship without returning to the altar.

The Divorce That Changed Everything

In September 2016, Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt after just two years of marriage, though they had been together since 2005. The court documents cited irreconcilable differences and confirmed they had separated just days earlier.

The filing came on the heels of a now-infamous private plane incident that reportedly involved an altercation between Pitt and their then-15-year-old son, Maddox. An anonymous tip led to an FBI investigation, which closed without charges — but the impact was irreversible.

As of 2025, five of the six were reportedly estranged from him.

Within a week, the iconic actress had moved to end the marriage and sought physical custody of all six children, asking that Pitt be granted only visitation. “I am very saddened by this,” Pitt said in a statement at the time. “But what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids.”

Jolie’s team echoed the sentiment, describing her decision as one made “for the health of the family.” In an interview with Vogue, the actress explained her decision to part ways with Pitt:

“I separated for the wellbeing of my family. It was the right decision. I continue to focus on their healing.”

She also expressed her admiration and described her kids as “six very brave, very strong young people.” However, the legal and emotional fallout that followed would stretch across years.

What began as a high-profile breakup quickly turned into a bitter custody battle that engulfed the family. Despite the parents’ intentions to maintain healthy co-parenting, the relationship between Pitt and his kids reportedly deteriorated over time.

That mindset had limited his ability to connect.

A source close to the family revealed that he had “virtually no contact” with his adult children, while his engagement with the younger ones became more limited due to his filming schedule.

The former couple’s custody agreement allows Pitt visitation rights with the minor children, but most of them spend the majority of their time with Jolie.

Pitt, who once played the world’s most charming leading men, suddenly found himself in a very real, very raw personal crisis — one that exposed fractures not only in his marriage but in his role as a father.

In a rare and vulnerable 2017 interview, he reflected on how his upbringing emphasized silence over emotional expression, and how that mindset had limited his ability to connect — not just with his children, but with himself.

“We know more, we’re more focused on psychology. I come from a place where, you know, it’s strength if we get a bruise or cut or ailment we don’t discuss it, we just deal with it. We just go on. The downside of that is it’s the same with our emotion,” he revealed.

Friends described the Hollywood star as “devastated.”

“I’m much better at covering up. I grew up with a Father-knows-best/war mentality — the father is all-powerful, super strong — instead of really knowing the man and his own self-doubt and struggles,” Pitt continued. The Hollywood star also touched on how the divorce cracked open his emotional defenses, saying:

“It’s hit me smack in the face with our divorce. I gotta be more. I gotta be more for them. I have to show them. And I haven’t been great at it.”

“Kids are so delicate,” he added. “They absorb everything. They need to have their hand held and things explained. They need to be listened to. When I get in that busy work mode, I’m not hearing. I want to be better at that.”

Despite this self-awareness, the rift between Pitt and his children deepened. As of 2025, five of the six were reportedly estranged from him. Some had dropped his last name; others refused to see him altogether.

A source close to the actor said that not even the devastating wildfires that swept through Los Angeles in January were enough to bring them back together — he remained, in their words, “frozen out.”

The emotional toll has been profound. Friends described the Hollywood star as “devastated,” still grieving the loss of that connection. And while his relationship with de Ramon has offered a sense of stability, that unresolved pain casts a long shadow.
