Rock Band ‘Weezer’ Bassist Scott Shriner’s Wife Shot by LAPD – Details

A quiet Los Angeles neighborhood turned into the scene of a police shooting Tuesday, drawing national attention after a woman later identified as a rock star’s wife was wounded and arrested.

Jillian Shriner, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Gardner Shriner, was shot and arrested by Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers on Tuesday, following a chaotic chain of events sparked by a freeway hit-and-run.

Around 3:25 p.m. on April 8, 2025, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to reports of a multi-vehicle hit-and-run crash on the eastbound 134 Freeway, west of Figueroa Street, in the Eagle Rock area of Los Angeles. According to CHP and LAPD, at least three male suspects fled the scene on foot.

Eyewitnesses Alana Altmeyer and her brother Guy Binn described to KTLA what they observed while traveling on the freeway.

“I saw a gentleman walking on the shoulder,” said Alana. “So, my brother and I went over and assumed that he was leaving the scene of an accident.”

The man tried to flee across the freeway but fell during the escape. “He was bleeding from his head, his mouth, and his knees,” Alana added.

Despite his injuries, the suspect continued to run. “I chased him down the side of the freeway, across the freeway, over a couple of fences,” Guy said. “He had a bag and a sweater. I got his bag. I got his sweater and me being so old, I couldn’t keep up with the guy. I chased him to the park, and I lost him.”

CHP requested LAPD backup to assist in locating the suspects. Officers from LAPD’s Northeast Division arrived and began setting up a perimeter in the residential neighborhood near the 5300 block of Waldo Place and the 1200 block of Eagle Vista Drive.

LAPD later located one suspect who had removed his clothing, stripping down to his underwear, then jumped into a resident’s swimming pool and watered plants in an apparent attempt to blend in. Sky5 aerial footage captured his apprehension.

While LAPD focused on securing the area amid the wild manhunt, officers encountered a separate situation involving a woman armed with a handgun. Officers observed the woman, later identified as 51-year-old Jillian Lauren Shriner, in the yard of a neighboring residence.

According to LAPD’s preliminary report, officers gave multiple verbal commands for Jillian to drop the weapon. She allegedly refused and pointed the handgun at officers, prompting them to open fire.

Jillian was struck by gunfire, fled into her residence, and then exited. Mobile phone footage from the scene captured her lying on the ground with a gunshot wound before she was handcuffed and arrested.

She was transported by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics to a hospital, where she was treated for a non-life-threatening shoulder injury.

KTLA reported that Jillian and another woman, later identified as her babysitter, exited the house with their hands raised. Both were detained without further incident.

Police confirmed that Jillian was not connected to the hit-and-run and was the homeowner at the scene. A 9-millimeter handgun was recovered from inside her residence. No officers or bystanders were injured in the incident.

According to booking records, Jillian was arrested by LAPD’s Force Investigation Division at 2:10 a.m. on April 9, 2025, and officially booked at 3:55 a.m. under booking number 6994080.

While the police shared no details about Jillian firing her weapon, she was charged with felony attempted murder and assigned to the LAPD Jail Division.

Jillian is described as a 51-year-old White female, 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 135 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Her date of birth is August 16, 1973.

Her bail was set at $1,000,000. She posted bond and was released from custody at 9:57 p.m. the same day. Jillian is scheduled to appear in court on April 30, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. in Department 30 at the Los Angeles Superior Court, 111 N. Hill Street.

Fire officials stated that a separate woman involved in the original freeway crash sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital.

The unexpected escalation left the residents stunned. “It’s a little crazy. I think they’re just trying to come out aggressive [sic],” said a neighbor named Tom.

“Five helicopters, lots of police activity, sirens; it was unsettling. It doesn’t happen here very often, if at all. It was strange,” expressed another resident, Ian Lockhart.

LAPD’s Force Investigation Division is currently handling the case and continues to investigate the shooting. “The following information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence,” the department stated.

“The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed,” concluded the statement.

Authorities also confirmed that the hit-and-run suspect who was apprehended was cited and released by CHP. The remaining two suspects involved in the freeway incident remain at large.
