Elon Musk’s Ex, Grimes, Reveals New Diagnosis — Details

The 37-year-old musician and Elon Musk’s ex unveils a personal diagnosis and warns about “extreme infohazards” in mental health spaces on social media.

Musician Grimes opened up about her health in a recent lengthy post on X, disclosing multiple neurodevelopmental diagnoses. “Got diagnosed w adhd/ autism this year and realized I’m prob dyslexic which is why I can’t spell at all without spellcheck [sic],” she wrote.

The “Genesis” singer reflected that if she had been diagnosed earlier, many of her struggles and intense interests might have been dismissed as “pathological.” She believes she likely would have been medicated and felt less motivated to overcome challenges. Looking back, she said she’s glad she pushed through on her own.

Alongside her personal revelations, Grimes criticized a subculture of mental health accounts on social media. She warned that while some provide helpful advice, others spread misinformation and act as “extreme infohazards.”

Grimes voiced concern over the growing trend of self-diagnosing mental health conditions without professional input. She also pointed out how mental illnesses can feel “contagious,” recalling how lessons on various conditions in school sometimes caused her and her classmates to temporarily show related symptoms.

Continuing that concern, Grimes said reading helped her manage her ADHD symptoms, calling it one of the best ways to improve focus and self-learning.

However, she criticized some ADHD-focused social media accounts for portraying beneficial habits like reading in a negative light. “I think the nature of this uninformed social media mental health subculture is rly a big concern [sic],” she wrote.

Grimes concluded her post by adding, “Some are great ofc but a lot of these seem like explicitly anti civilizational and geared towards making people worse [sic].”
