Medical Examiner’s Report Reveals Details on Aubrey Plaza and Husband Jeff Baena’s Interactions Before His Death
A new medical examiner’s report offers insight into the final months of the filmmaker’s life, shedding light on his relationship with the “White Lotus” star.
As reported by People on March 19, 2025, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s report states that Aubrey Plaza, 40, and Jeff Baena, separated in September 2024.
The report noted that in October, 47-year-old Baena made “concerning remarks” to Plaza, prompting her to contact a friend to perform a welfare check. Following the check, he began attending therapy.

The documents describe how Baena had been “experiencing recent marital difficulties” in the months leading up to his death. On January 3 at 10:36 a.m., Plaza received a final text message from Baena.
Later that day, his dogwalker entered his residence and found his body. The report confirmed Baena died by suicide. Plaza and Baena were married from 2021 until his passing.
