E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is an iconic childhood film, but Spielberg has a major regret

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is one of those 80s sci-fi films entrenched in the childhood memories of millions of adults around the world.

But for its director Steven Spielberg, there is a sour note to the cult classic.

Spielberg directed E.T. back in 1982. It follows 10-year-old Elliot Taylor (Henry Thomas) as he befriends an extraterrestrial left behind on Earth, who he calls E.T.

It was Taylor’s first major role, with him going on to star in numerous films and TV shows.

Most recently, he’s acted in a number of Netflix originals with filmmaker Mike Flanagan, including The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Massand The Fall of the House of Usher.

Starring alongside Taylor in just her second role was Drew Barrymore as Gertie Taylor, Elliot’s younger sister.

Together with their family and friends, the story follows Elliot and Gertie trying to get E.T. back to his home planet. The film became the highest-grossing movie of the 1980s, launching Barrymore to child stardom.

While filming E.T., Spielberg formed a strong bond with Barrymore, with the then seven-year-old even asking Spielberg, now 77, to be her dad.

In a profile of Barrymore by Vulture, she called Spielberg ‘the only person in my life to this day that ever was a parental figure’.

Spielberg never became her legal parent, but did agree to be her godfather.

John Drew Barrymore, Drew’s biological father, was an abusive alcoholic. Drew Barrymore paid for his medical bills up until his death aged 72 in 2004.

Barrymore herself has been very open about her experience with illegal substances, using cannabis at the age of 10 and abusing cocaine aged 12.

She was admitted in to rehab at the age of 13, and tried to take her own life a year later, after which she returned to rehabilitation care.

On Barrymore’s childhood during the filming of E.T., Spielberg said: “She was staying up way past her bedtime, going to places she should have only been hearing about, and living a life at a very tender age that I think robbed her of her childhood.”

He added: “Yet I felt very helpless because I wasn’t her dad. I could only kind of be a consigliere to her.”

During the filming of E.T., Spielberg tried to keep the magic alive for Barrymore, telling her that the alien was in fact real.

After a few weeks, the young actor spotted several men operating her extraterrestrial friend, with the director demanding they leave the set to keep the magic alive.

“I didn’t want to burst the bubble,” he said.

“So I simply said, ‘It’s okay, E.T. is so special E.T. has eight assistants. I am the director, I only have one’.”

Barrymore and Spielberg are still very close to this day.

The actor was emancipated from her parents at the age of 14.

She has been sober since at least 2019 and now hosts her talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show.

Sebastian Stan learned 'cruel' lesson from 'only people' who approached him when he wore A Different Man prosthetics in public

Sebastian Stan learned ‘cruel’ lesson from ‘only people’ who approached him when he wore A Different Man prosthetics in public

The actor tells LADbible there was only one group of people who interacted with him when he went out in New York in the prosthetics

A24’s latest release A Different Man was written and directed by Aaron Schimberg and stars Adam Pearson and Sebastian Stan.

The dark comedy and psychological thriller acts as a mirror held up to society, spotlighting people’s biases and ultimately discomfort – reactions Stan experienced first-hand when he walked around New York City wearing his character’s facial prosthetics.

In A Different Man, Stan plays the role of aspiring actor Edward who has a genetic condition called neurofibromatosis which presents itself in the form of tumors on his face.

Left feeling isolated, Edward leaps at the change to undergo a radical medical procedure to remove the tumors, however, having the face of someone who is considered a conventionally attractive man doesn’t live up to everything he thought it would be.

The arrival of Oswald (Pearson) rubs salt in the wound and leaves Edward’s mental health deteriorating in a rapid and alarming manner.

When playing Edward pre-medical procedure, Stan was required to wear facial prosthetics to portray Edward’s neurofibromatosis and the actor tells LADbible the prosthetics really ‘informed [his] whole character’ and ‘the whole experience of going into the movie’.

What’s more, Stan also spent time ‘going out into the world,’ walking around New York City while wearing the prosthetics, which he reflects as being ‘extremely educational in terms of just seeing how people react or don’t react’.

When asked what wearing the prosthetics taught him, Stan tells LADbible: “What did I learn? I think the world’s a cruel place.”

The actor explains he thinks ‘people project’ and while he doesn’t think everyone ‘inherently […] has a bad intention or anything’ many people ‘just don’t know how to deal with difference’.

“Yet we all are different in so many ways,” Stan adds. “And there’s very few people that actually genuinely have the curiosity to understand someone.”

So few, that there was actually only one specific group of people who interacted with Stan while he was wearing the prosthetics in public.

He reveals: “The only people who made any contact with me at all in those prosthetics were children. Everybody else was just either too scared or too worried about themselves.”

Stan reflects his experience wearing the prosthetics in public really highlights how much people ‘still have to learn,’ resolving: “I wish everybody would get to walk around in some prosthetics in New York City for one day and see the world through those lenses. I think it was really important to experience.”

MrBeast lost millions on latest video as he shares how much money he's made on YouTube

MrBeast lost millions on latest video as he shares how much money he’s made on YouTube

The YouTuber allegedly shared earnings from his latest video with those subscribed to him on Twitter.

MrBeast has apparently disclosed to his subscribers how much money he earned from his latest $3 million YouTube project.

The content creator – real name Jimmy Donaldson – is known for crazy video concepts such as; ‘1,000 Deaf People Hear For The First Time’, ‘I Paid A Real Assassin To Try To Kill Me’ and ‘Hydraulic Press vs Lamborghini’.

He’s also known for being one of the most subscribed individuals on YouTube with over 166 million subscribers – meaning he’s bringing in a fair bit of cash, to say the least.

However, his latest experiment, ‘Train Vs Giant Pit’, has apparently lost the 25-year-old a stack of cash.

The YouTube video itself saw MrBeast blowing up real sticks of dynamite and – as it says on the tin – driving an actual train into a massive pit.

MrBeat's latest stunt saw him crash an actual train into a giant pit.

Since it was uploaded six days ago, the 10-minute explosion has racked up 80 million views — but has apparently lost the YouTuber money after he spent $3 million on the project.

According to Twitter user, @mws, the Kansas-born personality has allegedly opened up about his earnings to those on his Twitter Subscription.

A tweet posted yesterday (13 July) reads: “MrBeast shared that he made $167,000+ on his newest YouTube Video so far (video cost was $3M)”.

“He shares insight like these on his Twitter Subscription and gave me permission to tweet it out,” the user continued.

“If you’re a Creator, you should def tap in. Raw transparency like this is cool AF.”

It turns out MrBeast didn't quite break even with his latest video.

Therefore, as of yesterday, it looks as if MrBeast had lost a total of $2,823,609 on his latest crazy experiment.

However, it seems that he doesn’t mind too much about the total video spend.

Two weeks ago, Donaldson appeared on The Colin and Samir Show and engaged in a two-hour debate that touched on fame, creativity and YouTube as a business.

The chat, titled An Unfiltered Conversation with MrBeast, featured a segment called ‘Money and Creativity’.

Speaking about throwing cash to his videos, the Greenville man stated: “I can get 100 million views on videos for less than £10,000 if I wanted to. It’s possible.”

MrBeast said it wasn't a 'bad thing' that he spends money on videos.

YouTube/The Colin and Samir Show.

The YouTuber then went on to say: “But, it’s like — what’s the point? I’m just trying to make the best videos possible.

“I don’t have an ego. I’m not trying to prove to people I don’t need to spend money. I don’t care. Spending money isn’t a bad thing.”

Doubling down, MrBeast stated that it isn’t, “A negative that I spent money on videos,” and pointed out another YouTube channel that he runs — MrBeast Gaming.

With 36 million subscribers, the 25-year-old said that he regularly gets, “70, 80 million views on videos.”

However, he stated that he gets the views with, “ no money spent, all the time. So it’s definitely possible.”

Riley Reid said that she would urge other people not to get into the adult industry in an emotional video posted a few years back.

The porn star, who is now 31, got teary in the video shared on her YouTube channel back in 2020, as she bemoaned some of the problems with being in the adult industry.

Of course, Reid – real name Ashley Mathews – has made a good living out of porn, making millions and becoming one of the biggest stars in that world.

However, that comes at a price, as it has cost her relationships, privacy, and caused issues with her family.

So, it wouldn’t be a career choice that she’d recommend to many other people.

In fact, Reid states in the clip that she’d actively warn people against getting involved.

“A lot of times when people ask me if they should do porn, I tell them no,” she said.

Riley Reid became emotional talking about the cost of her career.

YouTube/Riley Reid

“I tell them that it makes life really hard, it makes dating really hard, it makes your family life really hard, it makes intimacy hard.”

She continued: “If you’re putting yourself out there and the world is now judging you, you have to be OK with being shamed every day of your life.”

“I don’t even want to have children because I do porn, because I’m worried [about] the way that people will treat my child.”

Now, Reid has actually had a child, welcoming a baby girl into the world with husband, Pasha Petkuns, in July 2022.

Reid’s own mother was initially supportive of her career choice, with Reid admitting that ‘she kind of just let me do whatever’.

But that didn’t last, and things turned sour a while back.

She continued: “When I started to set these boundaries, not giving her money or things like that – it made our relationship a bit more difficult and almost toxic and so it sucks.

“I don’t have a mum anymore, I don’t talk to her, I miss having a mum.

“I feel like you can’t rewind and you can’t go back.

“I don’t have that relationship with her anymore.

“I don’t ever think I will and that bums me out. It bums me out a lot.”

Reid became one of the porn world's biggest stars, but it hasn't been without problems.

Instagram/Riley Reid

What’s more, she bemoaned her relationship with her ‘religious’ father is deteriorating, adding: “Recently I wanted to go visit him and he said that I can’t go visit because his wife – my stepmum – does not want me there,

“I’m not allowed to go visit my dad anymore because my stepmum doesn’t like that I do porn.

“When I was like well can we go get coffee or breakfast, he was like ‘I don’t want to be seen in public with you’ and that just f***ing hurt so bad and it sucks.”

Reid concluded: “I’ve lost my family, I don’t talk to my brothers or my sisters.

“I think that they all kind of tried to take advantage of me and stuff or they’re just like my dad – don’t want to be around me.”

Despite that, she seems to be happy these days with her new baby and her husband.

Still, there are problems that persist, including people being insulting to her baby.

In a more recent video, she said: “The amount of people who leave mean comments about my baby is crazy to me.

“Grow up. Stop being mean to a baby.”

Jason Momoa says he ‘doesn’t like wearing clothes’ anymore as he strips on live TV

Jason Momoa says he ‘doesn’t like wearing clothes’ anymore as he strips on live TV

Jason Momoa revealed what he likes to wear around the house on Jimmy Kimmel, and it ain’t much

Jason Momoa has claimed that he no longer enjoys wearing clothes after bearing his backside on Jimmy Kimmel Live! You can see the moment that Aquaman whipped his kecks off in the video below.

Momoa, known for his performances in various films and in TV show Game of Thrones, is in pretty decent shape, so it’s perhaps not too surprising that the lad likes to get his kit off.

For many of us, that would be something wrought with self-consciousness and low confidence, but when you are a bodybuilding, Hollywood heartthrob, it suddenly isn’t so much of an issue.

Anyway, when appearing on Kimmel’s US talk show, Momoa addressed a recent photo that he shared on his Instagram that showed his bare backside on a fishing trip.

Here's the picture that started it all.

Instagram

Well, it wasn’t quite his bare backside, he was actually wearing a piece of traditional Hawaiian dress called a malo.

The beige garment is a traditional loincloth worn by some on the Pacific island of Hawaii, where he’s from.

Therefore, it stands to reason that he might wish to wear it around the house a bit.

He told Kimmel that the malo is now his ‘favourite’ thing to wear, adding: “That’s what I wear every day.”

Apparently, he started wearing it in preparation for his role on Apple TV’s Chief of War, but just kept it up from there.

He explained: “And I was just getting ready for the role, because I like to get into character, and so I was tanning my white ass.”

Jimmy asked: “That’s comfortable?”

Momoa did start the interview with clothes on.

Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Momoa hit back: “Oh my God, yes.

“I actually don’t like wearing clothes anymore.

“I mean, I’m in it every day.

“I wear it all the time.”

We’ll have to take his word for it – over in the UK you might attract a few sideways glances if you wore that down to Aldi.

To be fair, Jason Momoa probably gets a few looks wherever he goes.

When asked whether he was wearing one at the time, Momoa proceeded to get his kit off and showed off his malo, before then exposing his whole bum to the audience.

As you can imagine, he was wearing the malo.

Jimmy Kimmel Live!

It’s groundbreaking telly, it really it is.

Then, Momoa decided to have a little shake in front of Jimmy’s face, which he obviously must have loved.

It’s all good harmless fun, after all.

When you’re Jason Momoa, these seem to be the sorts of thing that you can just get away with.
