Billy Joel Reveals Diagnosis and Cancels All Scheduled Concerts
The music icon’s recent health update comes several months after he lost his balance and fell during a live concert. Following the diagnosis, doctors have since urged him to step away from performing.
Billy Joel released a statement on Instagram on May 23, 2025, that he is canceling all upcoming concerts after being diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH).
His doctors have told him to stop performing for now, as the condition — worsened by recent shows — has affected his hearing, vision, and balance.
Joel’s decision to step away from performing wasn’t made lightly. Along with following his doctor’s advice, he expressed deep appreciation for the medical care he’s been receiving and made it clear that taking care of his health is his top priority.

The singer-songwriter also showed gratitude to fans for standing by him, sharing that he’s hopeful about returning to the stage one day:
“I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.”
Joel’s message drew a wave of emotion from fans, many of whom shared heartfelt words in the comments. One supporter wrote, “This breaks my heart. Hoping for a fast recovery. U are one of the greatest! Saw you and Elton John in concert…..AMAZING!!!!”
Another urged him to focus on healing, “Take a break bro 😭 get some rest . We can’t lose you we’ll sacrifice some concerts.”
The messages from fans come after an incident in February 2025, when Joel fell on stage during a concert. A video from that night captured him spinning a microphone stand — moments later, he tossed it aside, lost his balance, and fell.
