- Retired NFL quarterback Cam Newton called out his former coach Bill Belichick and his relationship with Jordon Hudson
- Belichick, 73, and Hudson, 24, made headlines with a controversial CBS interview last month in which Hudson continuously interrupted questions about their relationship
- Newton says Belichick used to preach that players shouldn’t cause “distractions” off the field and says his former coach is now doing the same at North Carolina
Cam Newton is fed up with former coach Bill Belichick.
The former NFL quarterback turned media personality opened up about the University of North Carolina head football coach, 73, and his 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson in a new clip from Newton’s podcast 4th & 1 with Cam Newton.
“I find it extremely interesting for a person who always led with this: ‘Do not be a distraction,’” Newton, 36, says in the clip, which was shared to TikTok on Wednesday, May 15. “We talking more about Jordon Hudson than talking about who’s our starting quarterback. You can’t name me three players on North Carolina’s roster right now besides Jordon Hudson.”
Newton, who played one season with Belichick and the New England Patriots in 2020, later adds: “Now you have that same situation with a 16-year-old that you’re trying to recruit. And you got to talk to his momma? This ain’t a good look.”
Former players and friends of the six-time Super Bowl winning football coach have spoken out in recent weeks about Belichick’s relationship with the beauty pageant competitor, who has also taken over as his personal public relations representative outside of North Carolina football — especially after a controversial CBS interview in which Hudson interrupted questions about their dating life.

Then came a report by ESPN’s Pablo Torre that said Belichick’s family was “concerned” about their relationship and that UNC was planning to ban Hudson from the university’s football facilities. A UNC spokesperson later disputed the report, which had credited “higher-ups” at the school who supplied the information to in the first place, according to Torre.
On Tuesday, Belichick also addressed Hudson’s involvement in his coaching life, downplaying her role during another ESPN interview. “It’s a personal relationship and she doesn’t have anything to do with UNC football,” he said.

Belichick’s players — like Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski — have also spoken out about their former coach, who took his first college coaching job this past offseason with North Carolina after 24 seasons coaching in the NFL. Gronkowski, like Newton, pointed out earlier this week that Belichick was all about limiting “distractions” off the football field and admitted “it feels like there are just distractions 24/7” at North Carolina right now.
Days later, Gronkowski, 36, told PEOPLE in an interview that he wants to see Belichick “shut everyone up” by producing wins on the field.
