Adam Levine knows love is “Priceless.”

The Maroon 5 singer-songwriter, 46, spoke to PEOPLE ahead of the live semi-finals of NBC’s The Voice on Monday, May 12. He elaborated on the ease of penning “Priceless,” which pays homage to his wife, Behati Prinsloo.

“It was the first song that I wrote for the album,” Levine tells PEOPLE exclusively. “It’s just this really fun, Summery, chill vibe song that always felt really good. The song kind of, you know, being about my wife, was the first song out the gates that felt good, felt positive, really positive, and fun. It’s hard to explain, but it just instantly hit me.”

He elaborates, “I thought, well, if it instantly hit me, obviously it could hit everybody else.”

Levine and Prinsloo, 36, wed in 2014 in a ceremony held in Mexico. The couple shares three children, daughters Dusty Rose, 8, Gio Grace, 7, and a son born in 2023.

The singer then spoke more about his experience collaborating with Lisa of BLACKPINK, who also recently starred in HBO’s The White Lotus.

“Lisa coming on the song, like, literally elevated it even more, which is amazing,” Levine says. “And it kind of needed something extra, and she was like the perfect something extra at the perfect moment.”

Levine tells people that the “most unique” aspect about the current season of The Voice is that it was the first time in 17 seasons that he didn’t have Blake Shelton with him onstage.

The Maroon 5 singer adds, “Adapting to that didn’t take much time because these guys are all so amazing, but that was the most unique feature of being on The Voice this season.”

“I didn’t know what it was going to be like, not having someone like a human punching bag by my side to exchange blows with,” Levine tells PEOPLE of their friendly rivalry.
