The pop star wore a Louis Vuitton pantsless look made by Pharrell Williams specifically for her short stature

Sabrina Carpenter is too busy of a woman to take the hate to heart.
After making a statement at the 2025 Met Gala on Monday, May 5, the Grammy winner, 25, ended up responding to a social media post criticizing her outfit.
On May 6, an X user shared a multi-thread post about improving Carpenter’s Louis Vuitton ensemble in ways that they felt would’ve complemented her petite figure more.
“I would never suggest this color or the ‘ringmaster’ costume to begin with, but it’s a perfect example of how dressing against your body type can go horribly wrong,” wrote the user, who also added a photoshopped image of Carpenter in a completely different outfit.
Carpenter found the post and jokingly responded to the lengthy commentary, writing, “damn I f—– up.”

As the X critic pointed out, the pop star’s outfit was actually made for her figure. In an interview with Vogue during the outlet’s red carpet livestream, she said that Pharrell Williams, Louis Vuitton’s men’s creative director, decided to make the tailored ensemble pantsless because of Carpenter’s height.
“He was like, ‘You’re quite short, so no pants for you.’ So here we are. Here we are,” she said of how the design came to be.
During the interview, Carpenter also kidded about the added benefit of spending the night in such an easy look. “Never been to the bathroom once because I’ve never been able to use it in my outfit. So tonight might be the night,” she said. “We’ll see… And I’m just gonna let everybody know what it looks like. I’m sure it’s just a normal museum bathroom, but I’m excited to find out.”

Carpenter slipped out of the monochromatic look into one more suited for a Met Gala afterparty later in the evening. Her stylist, Jared Ellner, went for a mob wife vibe with a marigold Louis Vuitton coat teamed with a white button-up shirt, black tie and trousers.
This year’s Met marked Carpenter’s third. She made her debut in 2022 in a skin-baring gold Paco Rabanne gown inspired by the “Gilded Glamour” dress code. She returned in 2024 dressed in a dreamy Oscar de la Renta creation that coordinated with her then-boyfriend Barry Keoghan’s attire. (The two stars attended fashion’s biggest night on Monday but separately since they split last year after about a year of dating.)
