Sarah Jessica Parker couldn’t make the 2025 Met Gala, but for good reason.
The And Just Like That… star, 60, revealed in a Friday, May 2, interview with Entertainment Tonight that she wouldn’t be able to attend the annual event in New York City on Monday, May 5, for one important reason: “Work.”
“I have to work,” she told ET‘s Rachel Smith while at the 2nd Annual Cultured Magazine Cult 100 event.
“But there’s going to be so much to see and I look forward to seeing what everybody does, and how they interpret the theme and the homework they did for the assignment.”

Parker still kept in contact with fans on Monday, however, sharing some New York Knicks highlights to her Instagram Stories a few hours after Met arrivals. The team beat the Boston Celtics during its latest playoff game on Monday, 108-105.
Monday’s Met Gala featured the theme of “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” with it fundraising for The Costume Institute and putting the spotlight on its spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” The exhibit itself was inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, exploring “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”
While Parker was unable to make it to the museum’s steps this year, she has certainly made her mark on the event as a whole in its previous iterations. Her 12th appearance came in 2024 as she celebrated the event’s “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” theme in a sculptural Richard Quinn corset gown. She attended with her close friend Andy Cohen.
“Your own comfort, it becomes very low priority,” she told Vogue of her outfit last year. “The priority is trying to present properly. It’s your responsibility to take care of the elements, on behalf of the designer, the milliner, hairstylist, makeup artist. This year, I’ll be standing.”

The Sex and the City alum first attended the Met Gala in 1995 in a thrifted black velvet dress. Her later standout appearances include in 2014, when she was given the role of co-chair alongside Bradley Cooper, Oscar de la Renta, Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch and Anna Wintour for the night’s the “Charles James: Beyond Fashion.”
