Lizzo has arrived at the 2025 Met Gala!
The musician, 37, made a splash on the carpet with platinum blonde hair as she flaunted her slimmer figure on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in a curve-hugging black and white two-toned gown.
Lizzo channeled a more classical look as she made her way up the steps in a gown that featured a black corset that showed off her cleavage and transitioned into a white fishtail bottom that flared out around her. The gown also had a fabric detailing on her shoulders, which mimicked a white suit jacket hanging off.
The musician completed the look with bombshell platinum blonde hair, which was curled into light rings. She also donned silver drop earrings, silver jewelry and held a black tobacco pipe in her hand, which she playfully pretended to take a few puffs from.

In October 2024, Vogue shared details on the 2025 Met Gala, announcing that Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour would be co-chairs for the event, alongside LeBron James as honorary chair. The gala, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on the first Monday in May, is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute and spotlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the theme for the gala.
Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton said that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”
The exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.

The Met Gala’s dress code for this year is “Tailored for You,” a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting. This year’s event also has a star-studded host committee that includes Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, Doechii, Regina King, Spike Lee, Usher and Angel Reese.
Last year, Lizzo appeared at the Met Gala in a structured, sheer dress by Victor Weinsanto with ribbing and flowers throughout. Her high-neck dress included a mermaid skirt, which defied gravity at the hem, standing straight up, and paired with a wide headpiece. The look saw rainbow petals strewn throughout, adhering to the “Garden of Time” dress code. Her eye makeup, by artist Alexx Mayo, was pointillism-inspired and multicolored to match the petals.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the look, Weinsanto said it took nearly 700 hours to complete the dress. The fabric of the dress was customized for Lizzo to match her skin tone.
“Honestly, now that the dress has been recreated for Lizzo, I like this version even better,” Weinsanto told the outlet. “It’s also perfect for showcasing her gorgeous body.”

In 2023, Lizzo attended the Met Gala — with the theme honoring late designer Karl Lagerfeld — in a custom Chanel look — long strands of pearls draped over a black silk crêpe dress, inspired by the 1991/92 Chanel ready-to-wear collection. She accessorized with large pearl drop earrings and piled her hair in a curly updo.
The year prior, Lizzo arrived completely gilded for the “In America: An Anthology of Fashion” theme: she sported a glamorous black and gold coat, with hand-embroidered gold floral designs, over a form-fitting black gown. The look, by Thom Browne, was topped off with a choker necklace and extra-long black nails. And for the finishing touch, Lizzo brought her flute and gave an iconic performance on the carpet.
Her Met Gala debut came in 2019, when she arrived in a bombshell monochromatic pink look. A guest of Marc Jacobs, Lizzo wore a flowy baby pink dress with a long hot-pink bow, underneath a voluminous pink and white feather cape. Fully embracing the “Camp: Notes on Fashion” theme, she even bedazzled her hands with gold rhinestones and topped the whole ensemble off with a Barbie-pink wig.

The next morning, Lizzo was seen donning the same feather cape as she traipsed through the airport. She created a new look with the cape by adding camouflage joggers, large black shades, a high ponytail and a stuffed animal.
Over the past two years, Lizzo has been focusing on her health, which is on full display in her 2025 Met Gala look. She has been open on social media recently by sharing about her “weight release journey” and what it has meant to her to prioritize her mental health as well as her body in a way that will have the right impact on her fans. As someone who has always promoted body positivity, she knew her words mattered.

“My body has been changing very slowly, but I don’t think people were paying attention,” the singer said during an April 2025 interview on Jay Shetty’s podcast On Purpose with Jay Shetty. “I would show different things like … my workouts or I’d show, like, what I eat in a day … But I think we got to remember, everybody not seeing your s— all the time.”
Lizzo continued, “Everybody’s not privy to what you’re going through. They’re not with you every day. So when I pop out on a red carpet or when a video suddenly goes viral and my body is different, it appears like it was overnight. It appears sudden.”
The truth was, the Grammy-winning singer was focusing on her health for a long time and being very intentional, and she always enjoyed working out. She also prefers to use the term “weight release” rather than “weight loss” because she sees it as a more holistic and healthy approach.
