Tiger Woods, 49, Undergoes Surgery — Details
Just a month after his beloved mother’s passing, the 49-year-old professional golfer underwent major surgery, raising concerns about his future in the sport.
Golf legend Tiger Woods announced on X that he ruptured his left Achilles tendon while training. He underwent a minimally invasive procedure performed by Dr. Charlton Stucken at the Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Woods shared that he is now recovering at home and thanked supporters for their well wishes. His injury sparked strong reactions from analysts and former players.
Former professional golfer and current analyst Arron Oberholser reacted, “Unreal. How much more can an athlete endure. Just brutal.” Golf journalist Dan Rapaport added, “Ruptured achilles is a nightmare. I’m sad.”
ESPN’s Booger McFarland commented, “It’s not our place to tell him what to do however I hope enough is enough Body has been thru a lot. Enjoy your kids. We will cherish all 82 of the wins and in a lot of eyes He is the greatest to ever touch a club [sic].”
The injury occurred weeks after Woods withdrew from a Torrey Pines tournament following the passing of his mother, Kultida Woods.
