In his now-expired post, Van Ness revealed that incorporating Pilates, reducing alcohol intake, and utilizing GLP-1 medications was pivotal to his journey. “I want to note, GLP-1s have been a huge help,” he wrote, referencing the class of medications known for aiding weight loss by curbing appetite. Well-known brands include Ozempic and Mounjaro.

However, he emphasized that his success wasn’t solely due to the medication. “My mental health and overall feeling is a different universe since last year, and the biggest change was group fitness,” disclosed Van Ness.

Alongside his reflections, the TV personality shared striking before-and-after photos showcasing his progress. In the first image, he stands with a fuller physique, posing in dark-colored boxer briefs against a lush outdoor backdrop.

The second image tells a different story—a leaner, visibly toned Van Ness flexes his arm in front of a mirror, his hair pulled back into a sleek bun, proudly showing off the results of his dedication.

“Overall though, I’m so proud of myself and want to share. Take what works for you & leave the rest,” he concluded. Upon seeing this post, social media users flocked to comment sections to express their opinions.

An Instagrammer admitted“I didn’t realize he was ever that big.” On the other hand, an observer chimed in with“Too skinny.” Similar comments ensued with yet another spectator opining“He looks underweight now. Look at his little legs. He didn’t need to lose that much weight.”

“He looked better before,” remarked a Facebooker, while a netizen asserted“He could’ve just taken off 10-15 pounds and look great. This is too much.” Although Van Ness received a lot of criticism, some people showed him support.

“Oh wow! This is awesome! Good luck to anyone on a fitness journey,” commended a supporter, while a fellow admirer praised“Way to go!!! Awesome job!!!:):):)! He looks fantastic before and after! Love his personality and good vibes!!!”

Another echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing how difficult it is to lose weight and keep it off in general. While the hairstylist, actor and producer only revealed his widely discussed weight loss recently, Van Ness’ health journey has been going on for some time.

Earlier this year (2025), the TV star opened up about using a GLP-1 in a TikTok video. After confirming his use of weight loss medication, Van Ness expressed, “Now, if you have been following me for a long time, you’ll know that I’ve gained and lost weight several times very publicly, and this time in my life I knew that I needed a little bit of extra help.”

He continued, “With everything that I’ve been through, publicly and privately, in the last couple of years, I had gained quite a bit of weight, wasn’t feeling good, and the most important thing […] is that my binge eating disorder was out of control.”

As he applied skin care products on his face, Van Ness detailed the regrettable decisions he had been making concerning his disorder, adding that his actions left him feeling “depressed and out of control.”

After talking to his doctor about how he had been feeling, Van Ness revealed how the medical professional had suggested GLP-1s. He disclosed how he had tried a pill version of the medication some years ago that ended up not working.

His doctor then suggested he try the shot version. “And I gotta tell you, this was back in September, I felt immediately better. I, for the first time in my life, have had control over my food intake. It has just helped me so massively,” shared the star.

Van Ness then addressed his followers directly, “That’s part of why I want to be honest with you about it because I know how important asking for help is, and how much asking for help can change your life in terms of healing.”

At the end of his video, Van Ness mentioned the fact that he would have a medical professional on his podcast who would be breaking down how GLP-1s work in the body.

In another TikTok video post, Van Ness spoke about his love for pilates—the exercise regime he listed as one of the elements vital to his weight loss. Seated in his car, the TV personality gushed, “Pilates is [expletive] fun! […] I’m obsessed […] You feel so good! I love that it’s like strong and graceful”

Van Ness also encouraged people who have ever wondered if they should try the full-body workout to give it a chance. However, he acknowledged that pilates is not the easiest thing to do.

Still, he dubbed it his “favorite way of moving” his body and boasted about another workout routine called Solidcore before bidding his followers farewell.
